Think City

The Think City is Think's flagship electric car - its small, relatively affordable, and probably in a very good position to become a market leader in this part of the fledgeling electric car market. 

It has a funky image and good performance stats, and when it finally arrives in the UK market it should become a real contender in the battle for the hearts and minds of budding electric car owners.

UK motorists will soon be able to place orders to buy the first fully electric powered car later this year, when the new TH!NK city electric vehicle (EV) goes on sale in this country. Revealed at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show by Norwegian electric vehicle pioneers Think, a company with 17 years experience in EVs, the new TH!NK city will be available for customer orders during the last quarter of this year.

Reports on test-drives for this Norwegian electric car have been good. Compared to the electric cars available in the UK at the moment, the G-Wiz and Mega City – driving the TH!NK City is reported to be a more conventional car-like experience.  It's nippy and fast to accelerate.  It is a city vehicle and tops out at 65mph, although that still makes it fast enough for motorway driving compared to most other electric cars.  The Mega City, by comparison, has a maximum speed of 40mph. The Th!nk City also has a greater range capable of 112 miles between charges.

Inside, the car is similar to a Fiesta, which makes sense as Ford did own THink.   A see-through glass boot helps parking no end and it is a nice looking car.  The TH!NK City still isn't 'mainstream' and the back seats are really just for kids.  It is a good city run around though.  The Think City's debut in the UK is planned for 2010, wth another 3,000 vehicles going to governments and local authorities across Europe, including the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Denmark, Sweden and Finland.

A current promised price of £12,000 means the Th!nk city will be cheaper than the G-Wiz and Mega City, for arguably a better car.  It is emission free and 95% recyclable. The two seater urban car has a top speed of 65 miles per hour. It accelerates from zero to 30 mph in just 6.5 seconds and 50 mph in 16 seconds. It requires just an overnight top-up of electricity and can travel for 124 miles in city driving on a fully charged battery.

A full charge from a domestic electricity socket takes just ten hours. Over 10,000 miles use, the total cost of electricity used to power a TH!NK city electric car will be in the region of £125.
